Whether you’re planning on spending the weekend completing some odd jobs, scheduling a complete DIY overhaul or maybe you don’t even know where to start – managing a home renovation project can be stressful and daunting. With these 9 essential tips, the whole process will be easier and you’ll be outside enjoying the weather in no time! 1. Get some professional advice – It is very important to know when to ask for help. If you begin making mistakes then the whole process can get very expensive, very quickly. Getting help from the professionals shouldn’t be seen as a failure. 2. Budget – Budgeting properly will only help you in the long run. Make sure you are aware of all costs associated with your decorating projects and be sure to have spare savings if something does wrong. 3. Research - The Internet means that we now have a huge selection of inspiration on offer. Pinterest and Instagram are great platforms and be sure to save any images you like. Purchase some interior magazines and begin making a scrapbook. 4. Get ordering – People always underestimate how long it will take for new furniture and tiles to be made and delivered. To avoid delays, you should order items at least 2 months before any work begins. 5. Set a completion date – This date is not set in stone and will probably change but make sure that everyone involved is on the same page, working towards the same target. That way, it won’t be a massive upheaval if you have to move the date back 1-2 weeks. 6. Pack up valuables – Even if you’re only planning on painting, you’ll be amazed at how quickly items can go missing, get broken and pushed around. Remember to cover the floors with sheets and tape over areas that you don’t want painted. Nothing is invincible to the splashes of paint.
